Whining About Lack of First World Luxuries

I told the property management company Monday that something was wrong with my AC - a wrongness that created a loud squealing noise like distressed metal and that was getting progressively worse. I also said that my friend who is an engineer had judged that I shouldn't even run it unless I was there to supervise, because it was likely to seize up.

The property management person wrote on the work order "AC squeals when turned on." The AC guy came Tuesday and "replaced contact and cap, serviced unit coil, washed filter." The AC continued to make the horrible screaming noise and then stopped working completely, leaving a slight burning smell in the apartment.

I called the property management co. again Tuesday night and Wednesday morning and they sent the AC guy back. The AC guy now says "Bearings out on motor." This is exactly the diagnosis that J. made OVER THE PHONE on Sunday evening just from hearing the noise in the background of our phone converation.

I am rather disgusted. This reminds me inescapably of when the dishwasher didn't run at all and they sent someone by - his contribution was the explanation that the dishwaher wouldn't operate if it was set to "cold dry" because it was only hooked up to the hot water line, not the cold water line. I had to call the property management folks and point out that to the best of my knowledge, a drying cycle with no heat did not involve the use of cold water, and even if it did, the dishwasher was not "fine" if it had a clearly marked option for "cold dry" but selecting it turned the appliance into a large paperweight.

I am also tired, since I haven't been able to sleep very well due to the baking - and also due to barking from a neighbor's new dog. I have yet to be kept awake by banking or basking, but I'm expecting that soon.

I support Barack Obama
