So why can't every airline tell me what's on sale based on where I live? They all made me fill out forms that told them where I was before they would send me regular emails. Delta knows I live in Austin, so it emails me sales in Austin. Continental can tell that I live in Texas, so it emails me deals from Texas - which makes some sense, and probably makes more sense in smaller states.
But United thinks I care about flights leaving from Boise, Chicago, DC, Denver, and LA. American Airlines thinks I care about departures from Chattanooga, Kansas City, and Norfolk, among others.
Southwest, not to be outdone, thinks I care about flights from every single city they serve. Every one. Regularly.
Do people really buy that many plane tickets leaving from somewhere else?
Of course, Southwest also want me to voluntarily install a torture device on my computer:
We are so excited to announce the arrival of DING!, our newest customized product designed to bring our hottest deals directly to your desktop...Once you complete the installation, a Southwest Airlines icon will appear on your system tray... You will be notified of a new offer by hearing a DING! and the icon on your desktop will indicate a message is waiting.
That's all my stress level needs: a program in my system tray, randomly making dinging noises at me. I bet The Dog would bark at it, too. If she's not too busy hiding from the flying insect in the bathroom.
